Eric Shanteau Battle Against Cancer

Olympic swimmer Eric Shanteau was diagnosed with testicular cancer two months before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He choose to compete on China first before undergoing a very difficult operation when he gets back.

An interview with him has managed to talk about his hard tasks of telling his fellow American swimmers, "Talking to one person or two, or even a reporter, is one thing," Shanteau, 24, said to NBCOlympics.com. "Telling your peers – that's a very different thing to do."

Michael Phelps observed, "When we all first heard, we were all shocked. You could hear a pin drop in the room. The first few days you feel bad for him, then it's like you almost forget he has it. He doesn't act like he has it.

"He's part of the team," says Phelps. "I can't believe what he's going through, but he still has that drive to be here and do his best. It's an amazing thing to watch. I lost my grandmother to cancer. I know it’s not an easy battle."

For Shanteau – whose father, Richard, was diagnosed with lung cancer last year – the decision to compete was balanced by a need to stay healthy. He will face surgery after the Olympiad.

"What I show the general public is my positive side," Shanteau told reporters at the start of the Games. "I am human. This has been a roller-coaster ride. This isn't just the flu – this is cancer. When I'm in my down times is when I look to the people to my left and right. It's on my mind constantly – I can't help it. That’s just how it's going to be."

Reflecting on the choice to compete first and face surgery later, Shanteau said, "I have no regrets whatsoever. Over the past two months, I made a decision and stuck with it. Now I can put all my energy into it, fighting this battle. I'm going to attach it the same way I did swimming, and I'm going to get it the hell out of me."
one month before the U.S. Olympic trials – says the toughest part of his ordeal was telling his teammates.

Jonas Brother Supports Bayer Diabetes Care

The Jonas Brothers are giving their support to a cause close to their hearts. The young band has partnered with Bayer Diabetes Care to offer encouragement to young people with diabetes and spread awareness about the disease, with which Nick was diagnosed at age 13.

"I thought, 'Why me?' I didn't know how to handle it," Nick Jonas, 15, told PEOPLE at a press conference in New York Wednesday. The pop star was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November 2005, after experiencing sudden weight loss and behavioral changes.

"I didn't know anyone with diabetes," said Nick. "There was no familiar face in music or sports that I could connect with ... [but] I started to see it as an opportunity to be an inspiration to a generation that doesn't openly talk about having diabetes and not feeling embarrassed by the disease."

That means checking his blood sugar levels whenever necessary – even while performing. "At a concert a couple of days ago Nick had a low onstage," said his big brother Kevin, 20. "He said, 'I need a second to stall,' so I kept talking [to the audience] until he gave us the sign that he was O.K."

The message Nick hopes to share with others? "To be able to live my dream by being in a band shows that anything is possible," he said. "Even if you have diabetes."

Homes Of Celebrities

I have seen episodes of some show on MTV that shows of celebrity homes. I believe it’s called MTV Cribs, but I’m not really sure. I only saw it a few times, and those times I caught it just because the television in my living room was left on that station. I thought they were neat homes, but I thought they were also a little over the top, even for celebrities . I can imagine, and I can only hope, that many of the ones not shown on this show are done a little more tastefully. There were some great ideas but there were also some that were taken so far to the extreme that the home didn’t even look like a home any longer.

Many celebrity homes are probably more elaborate than most of us mortals have for ourselves. I guess when you earn that kind of money; you can get whatever it is you want for your home. There’s nothing wrong with that. I can also understand some of them having theaters and even a bowling alley in their celebrity homes. When you get mobbed every single time you leave the house, who wants to take that chance just to see a movie? I know I wouldn’t want to deal with it all the time. It’s not even the fans that would bother me; it would probably be those photographers that got to me.

Celebrity homes are well guarded and they have elaborate alarms systems, at least they do if they are smart. Most fans are ordinary people and wouldn’t dream of stalking a celebrity to their home or even try to get in, but there are some loose nuts out there that would to do just that. This is why so many celebrity homes are surrounded by gates so large and so wide that you can’t even see the house they are protecting. Again, this is smart thinking!

On occasion, celebrity homes go up on the market. You can buy one if you have the cash, but most of us do not. Even some celebrities can’t afford celebrity homes, and that is because some become famous for reasons that don’t involved money. Think about the humble homes where people like Oprah, Elvis, or even a president came from. These might be the most valuable celebrity homes you can find. There is something inspiring about coming from nothing to have everything that keeps the American dream alive.

Know More about Your Favorite Hollywood Stars

Ever since the invention of Hollywood as the movie capital of the world, we have all had a fascination for Hollywood Stars. They are the Royal Family of America. For some fans, the fascination becomes an obsession. Their homes become shrines to their favorite Hollywood star . Their vacations are all pilgrimages to get as close as possible to the Hollywood stars.

Hollywood does everything it can to encourage the fascination with Hollywood stars, both the new and the old. Even the dead do not get to rest in peace, but are under constant scrutiny. The explosion of the Internet fosters this interest with information on how to track down a star, or at least some memorabilia concerning the star. You can learn where they live, go shopping, which night clubs they frequent, where they went to school, where they go to church, where they dine and where they are buried!

One of the major tourist spots for fans of the Hollywood stars is the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre sidewalk, where stars have been immortalized by their handprints and footprints in the cement. They know they are a legend when they get the invitation. Some Hollywood stars have imprinted their personality by leaving a trademark, such as the imprint of Groucho Marx's cigar and John Wayne's fist.

Of course, there are tours of the homes belonging to Hollywood stars, and some specialize in the scenes of celebrity scandals and deaths. You can view the house where Marilyn Monroe died, where Sharon Tate was murdered, and where O.J.Simpson was arrested.

There are plenty of graves of Hollywood stars to visit. There is detailed information on where to find such luminaries as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Spencer Tracy or Gregory Peck. If you can't manage to snare a real Hollywood star and you don't want to see a grave, there are Hollywood wax museums. Veterans such as Clint Eastwood rub shoulders with new additions like Spider-Man.

There is a particular interest in the Hollywood Stars of the 1940's, 50's and early 60's. Perhaps this is because these decades hark back to a simpler time, a more romanticized time when the stars were truly treated like royalty. The Hollywood stars were part of the studio system, contracted to the studios and protected by them. Despite their watchful care, scandal would break out sometimes, which only makes us more intrigued by them today. This was the time when the good guys wore white hats and the bad guys wore black hats. The leading man stood up when the leading lady entered the room. It was fashionable for ladies to wear a hat and cigarette holders were the height of sophistication. It was another world.

The Significance of SEO in Internet Marketing

If you are already running an Internet marketing campaign or are about to embark on an Internet marketing campaign, one concept you cannot afford to skimp on is search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is one of the most popular buzz words in Internet marketing but unfortunately most Internet marketers simply do not know enough about SEO to make this strategy work for them. Even those who are knowledgeable about SEO may have difficulty executing their SEO strategies to produce the desired affect.

Advertising is a very important part of running any type of business. You need to advertise to reach new customers and market your products or services. Whether you run your business online or not you probably already realize how important it is to advertise but if you are running your business online you should understand there is a great deal of free advertising available in the form of optimal search engine rankings.

Well known search engines such as Google rank websites according to complex algorithms which are designed to determine which websites are most relevant for particular search terms. Therefore taking the time and effort to optimize your website for relevant search terms may result in you being rewarded with high search engine rankings for these terms. This is important because most Internet users rely heavily on these rankings. It is not uncommon for Internet users to only review the first few results when they search for a particular term. This means if your website ranks high enough to appear on the first page of the search results you will likely enjoy increased website traffic. However, if your website doesn’t make it to the first page or even the second page, it is unlikely you will receive a great deal of website traffic from visitors who use search engines.

Now that you understand why search engine rankings are so important you might wonder how to achieve these rankings. The easiest way to optimize your website is to hire a SEO specialist to do the work for you. The world of SEO is complex and continually evolving making it difficult for most business owners who do not specialize in SEO to keep up with the changes in the industry. Therefore, business owners who attempt to optimize their website by themselves may have difficulty keeping up with competitors who hire a SEO consultant to optimize their website.

The algorithms used by search engines can be rather complex and include a number of different factors. Some of the common factors in the equation include keyword density, META tags, titles, inbound links, website traffic and content.

Keyword density refers to the number of times a particular keyword is used in the content of your website. The theory behind this concept is that website which use a keyword often are likely extremely relevant to that keyword, however, overuse of that keyword may result in penalties to the website if the search engine deemed the keywords are not being used appropriately.

META tags are pieces of HTML code which some search engines use in evaluating the content of a website. Placing keywords in these tags can be beneficial in some search engines. However, care should be taken to avoid placing irrelevant keywords in these tags as this may result in your website being penalized.

Inbound links are also used by some search engines to rank websites. Inbound links refer to links on other websites which point to your website. In evaluating the worth of these inbound links, some search engines consider the rank of the website providing the link to your website. This means you should ensure the website providing inbound links to your website are high ranking websites to receive the most benefit from these links.

Finally, the content on your website can do a great deal to bolster your search engine rankings. Most SEO firms retain a staff of writers who are skilled at providing quality content which is also optimized for relevant keywords. If you hire a SEO firm who does not providing copywriting services you should invest in hiring a professional writer yourself. This will help to ensure the copy on your website is not only valuable to your visitors but also considered valuable to search engines.

The Difference of Internet Marketing and Spam

Savvy business owners who take advantage of Internet marketing realize there is a fine line between marketing and spam and orchestrate their marketing campaigns to gain the maximum amount of exposure without running the risk of being viewed as spam.  The definition of spam is open to interpretation but most people agree on the fact that spam is equivalent to junk mail you receive at your residence. In general spam is unsolicited emails which are part of an advertising campaign. The term spam can also apply to message board postings which are posted solely for advertising purposes. This article will examine the differences between effective Internet marketing and spam.

First we will consider the use of message boards for the purpose of Internet marketing . Message boards are essentially online meetings places for Internet users who share a particular interest to exchange idea, ask or answer questions or just socialize. These message boards allow users to register and post messages. Most message boards have asset of guidelines which the users must follow when making posts. These guidelines may vary widely with some being very strict about acceptable content and others not being nearly as strict. It is important to follow these guidelines because failure to do so may result in the moderators deleting your account and other members not paying much attention to your posts.

Message boards are ideal for Internet marketing because they can provide a business owner with access to a specialized target audience. If you are in the business for finding jobs for employees who wish to telecommute, you might join a message board dedicated to working from home to find members who may be interested in your products. Here you may learn a great deal about the concerns of your target audience. You can also take the opportunity to post links to your website when appropriate and in accordance with the message board guidelines. This is considered to be smart Internet marketing. However, if you opt to respond to each and every post with a link to your website even when it is not relevant and do not offer comments of value to other members, they are likely to view your posts as spam. This can be damaging because these members may opt to avoid your website even if they have a need for your services.

E-newsletters and email advertising are one area of Internet marketing which is most likely to be viewed as spam if not done properly. Most Internet users to not appreciate unsolicited emails especially when these emails do not pertain to a subject that interests them. This is often the case when business owners buy email lists and send their advertisements to everyone on the list. This is not effective because you are not likely to reach a large population of your target audience. Additionally, recipients of the email may block your email address so future communications are automatically sent to a spam folder. Some recipients may even report you to their Internet service provider who may investigate the claim that you are a spammer. A better way to approach the concept of email marketing is to only send e-newsletters and advertisements to past customers who have specifically asked to receive such emails and potential customers who have requested additional information.

The Life Of James Garner

He was a teen idol before. Both movies and television have played a part in the long, illustrious career of James Garner. Born in 1928 in Oklahoma, he had several experiences of life before discovering show business. He signed up for the United States Merchant Marine when he was sixteen years old, a life he loved but was plagued with incurable seasickness. He then enrolled in the Hollywood High School in Los Angeles and spent some of his spare time, modeling.

After joining the National Guard, Garner served in the Army in the Korean War, receiving two Purple Hearts. James Garner then made his first appearance on television in commercials. This led to television work and supporting roles in the movies. The big break came when he landed the lead part in the comedy western, Maverick. Westerns were popular during the 1950s and Garner was a big hit with the public. They loved his easy charm and dark, handsome looks and the role of a professional gambler suited him well. The show ran from 1957-1962 but Garner left in the third season.

The role that the actor is most associated with is as private investigator, Jim Rockford in The Rockford Files. It was one of the most popular shows during the 1970s and is watched by a new generation as episodes are regularly repeated. James Garner received an Emmy Award for his performance in 1977. Just operating on the right side of the law, Rockford was a sucker for a cause and lived in a trailer, never hanging on to money for too long. The relationship with his on screen father, played by veteran actor, Noah Beery Jr added to the show's appeal. The mix of adventure and comedy gave Garner the opportunity to do much of the stunt work himself.

Garner's roles in movies have been varied, from light, comedic roles to high drama. He was teamed with Doris Day for two romantic comedies, including Move Over, Darling in 1963. His comedy timing was apparent again in Support Your Local Sheriff, a comic western that also featured Walter Brennan and Jack Elam. He was also part of the ensemble cast of The Great Escape, the prisoner of war film that is shown constantly on TV. The Maverick show was re-made as a movie in 1994 with Mel Gibson in the title role. James Garner gave support, playing Marshal Zane Cooper.

Garner has achieved a place in the hearts of fans and a rightful place in posterity. His star graces the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actor's Guild in 2005.
